Set Up a Squirrel Feeding Station To Keep Squirrels Out A Bird Feeder
Set Up a Squirrel Feeding Station
Are you looking for ways to keep squirrels out of a bird feeder in your yard? Then put up a squirrel feeding station in the yard away from bird feeders. Are their more squirrels than birds feed on your bird seeds. Have you found that Squirrel baffles don’t seem to work.
If you let them, most squirrels will empty a large bird feeder in several hours and leave the poor birds hungry.
Here is a possible solution for your consideration. Set up a separate squirrel feeding station in your yard.
Provide those squirrels an easy way to get their own food by placing their own squirrel feeding station far away from the bird feeder in the yard. Place it high in a tree so those pesky squirrels feel safe from other predators. You might consider putting the squirrel feeder station on some type of a pulley system so you can raise and lower it to add more food. You goal is to make the squirrels comfortable when feeding at their own feeder.
Make sure you select foods that are desired for squirrels. Squirrels enjoy unshelled peanuts or any kind of nuts. So place those types of food in the squirrel feeding station. You want the squirrel food to be tastier so they will leave bird feeders alone.
The Heritage Farms Squirrel Diner, Squirrel Feeder is a great choice mainly because it is made of metal, rather than wood (wooden feeder will not hold up under rain & snow, nor keep the feed from getting soggy & gross).
The feeder is very solid with advantages over the wooden models. First, the lid protects the squirrel feed from rain and snow. But the lid is still easy for the squirrels to lift. You can fill the feeder with a mixture of whole, unsalted peanuts or a mixtures of seed/dried fruit/nut mix. The squirrel feeding station has no perch so they have to figure out how to hold onto the feeder while getting their heads up under the lid to feed. I like the fact that they can’t perch on the feeder and stuff themselves on the food emptying the feeder in a day.
Another advantage, the squirrels will spend less time trying to defeat other squirrel proof feeders!
